We look to nature to draw inspiration from for our Japanese acetate colors. The process begins by reviewing photos from photographers we work with. We then head to our partners in Japan who use the color inspiration to make a custom acetate color that is unique to SALT. This past season we introduced a few new exclusive colors and as a part of this release we wanted to spotlight just 2 of the photographers we work with. The first one is Jeremy Bishop.

So how did you get your start in photography?
I first got started in photography shooting with the Gopro. This was back when they released the Gopro hero 2. I would swim out in the lineup and capture video and photos of my buddies surfing. During this time I would post my surf and water photography from my Gopro to Unsplash, and they received a lot of views and downloads. I soon realized that people really liked my work and that I was good at it. This led me to pursue photography and upgrade my gear to keep shooting what I love.
What is/was your favorite place to photograph and why?
Hawaii will always have a special place in my heart even after just living there for half a year. I’ve been back many times since, but it’s the people that make it special. Some of my closest friends grew up on Oahu and it makes it so special to travel and hang out with them and their families. What first drew me there were the waves, but then I got to experience the beauty of free diving and underwater photography outside of surfing. This is what I fell in love with as well right away.
How much of a role does nature play into your work?
Nature and outdoor activities are my main focus in photography. Nature is my canvas and I truly love every encounter with it. Whether I’m shooting for work or for pleasure, I am always seeking out unique ways to capture nature and it’s natural textures. I was first drawn to photographing the ocean and underwater photography, so the oceans and marine life is special to me.
What are some influences you feel impacts your work?
A few influences that impact my work have to be design and typography, textures in nature, and sports/extreme sports. All of these play a crucial role in different aspects of my creativity. They all spark something different in me when influencing the things that I shoot and the way I shoot.
If you only had to pick one camera and one location to shoot; what and where?
I would have to choose the Sony A1 and my location would either be Iceland or Indonesia.

Any advice for photographers just starting out?
I have two things that come to mind right away. Get out there and meet people in the creative world. There are so many wonderful and talented people out there to meet and connect with. Also, with the ease of social media these days it’s making it easier and easier to connect with artists and creatives around the world. Secondly, nothing good happens without planning. When it comes to capturing nature, you will need to put as much planning as you can because it is ever evolving. A few things I am always keeping an eye on are weather (Do I want blue skies or do I want some texture with clouds), which season do I want to capture this landscape in, time of day I will set up to shoot it (When does the sun hit the feature), and how much time will it take for me to find a unique angle.
